Week 1: Development of Florida’s Geology, Hydrology and Ecology: Review of Florida’s developmental history beginning with its emergence from the sea and the formation of its limestone base. A review of the interaction of Florida’s environment with fresh and saltwater, and the ecosystems that developed as a result. How disruption of this dynamic has impacted the hydrology, water quality, & ecosystem stability within the state. Week 2: The Impact of Technological Development in Florida: The nature of our society’s influence upon the eco-structure of Florida over the past 200 years, and how this impacts our economic & environmental sustainability & general quality of life. Will review approaches toward better stewardship of Florida’s environment & why this is important for future generations.
Allen Stewart III P.E. (FL23577) is trained in engineering (Univ. of Central Florida ‘76) and the biological sciences (Univ. of Florida ‘71), and has extensive experience in design & implementation of surface water & wastewater treatment facilities. He is a native Floridian. His 40 year career has been exclusively in Florida, having been involved in projects associated with restoration of Lake Apopka, Lake Okeechobee, the Indian River Lagoon and the Everglades.
